ἔπειτα δὲ καὶ τοὺς συκοφάντας ἐθεράπευον, εἰδὼς ὅτι παθεῖν μᾶλλον κακῶς ἱκανὸς εἴην ἢ ποιῆσαι ἐκείνους.

Then I flattered the blackmailers too, knowing that I was more likely to suffer injustice at their hands than to inflict it on them.
